GQ: When you get a script like last night's and you see that the majority of the action is taking place over a finite period, where everyone is pretty much wearing one outfit, is it easier or harder to decide on a character's costume design?
Janie Bryant: For Don Draper, specifically, Matthew Weiner and I talked about all the different stages of Don in the episode. So it was really important to me that his costume was one that he was going to look good in in the beginning and then be able break down and break down and break down to go with the story of his emotional breakdown. For his costume, I wanted his first suit to be not the most flattering color. I wanted to use that perfect soft vintage gray. Also, I knew in terms of the story, that in the end, when we see him in the elevator he had to look totally different so I wanted to use a costume that would be in high contrast to the one he basically wears throughout the entire episode.

Alexandre Mattiussi makes clothes that he wants to wear and we're sure happy he does. The designer, after stints at high-end houses like Dior and Givenchy started his own label AMI just two years ago and in that short time, the brand has quickly established itself as a go-to for guys seeking clean sportswear and tailoring that can hang with the bigger guys but is, thankfully, made with a much wider audience in mind (you know, one that can actually afford it). AMI has struck such a chord with the menswear set that MR PORTER commissioned Mattiussi to put together an exclusive thirteen piece capsule of summer essentials that's up for grabs tomorrow morning. The easy, edited lineup ranges from outerwear to sports jackets, shorts to blue suede shoes, all in Mattiussi's unique color palette where khaki and washed plum are both considered neutrals. We caught up with the charming Frenchman at MR PORTER's NYC offices to talk about his limited edition lineup, how he's better at cooking with clothes than food (you'll see), and why every piece of menswear he makes starts out sketched on a lady's body.

"The brilliance of the Maison Kitsune duo lay in their ability to take standard menswear fare, like a button-down oxford shirt, and deliver the very best version of it. This interpretation keeps the original oxford's preppy heritage in place but amps things up with a pale yellow hue that elevates any tie and jacket you put it with, especially gray." --Jim Moore, GQ creative director
